Pickleball tradition continues at 3rd Annual Commerce Chenango Tournament

NORWICH - It was a beautiful day for the 3rd annual Commerce Chenango Pickleball tournament. On Saturday the tournament was held at the Borden Avenue Skating Facility at Weiler Park. There were a total of 49 teams registered for this year’s tournament ranging 11 to 87 highlighting how fast pickleball grew from being the fastest growing sport globally.
Sal Testani, President and CEO of Commerce Chenango, was pleased at the turnout out of the events and how the community came together.
“The actual goal of the tournament is to highlight what a great community we live in,” Testani said.
This event showcased players from Chenango, Broome, Cortland and Otsego County.
“They all praised the courts and the people,” Testani said.
Testani stated that the tournament helped out the Youth Bureau the past three years.
“The purpose of the tournament is not to raise funds,” said Testani.“In the past, the Chamber has donated part of the total proceeds from the tournament to the Norwich Youth Bureau This has helped pay for the nets at the courts and fund programs for children from all over the county. We will work with the Youth Bureau to see how we might support them again this year.”
There were all different levels of competition with the winners as followed for each group;
Women's Beginner: Claire Barth and Tatum Babcock.
Women's Intermediate: Lori Dower and Elaine O'Mara Hulbert.
Women's Advanced: Jenn Clark and Naomi Burghardt.
Mixed beginner: Taegan Manwarren and Josh Lindridge.
Mixed intermediate: Samson Hendricks and Jillian Finch.
Mixed advanced: Dio De Los Santos and Yan Lin.
Men's Beginners: David Lawson and Jed Turner.
Men's Intermediate: Steven Dowdall and Jonah Adams.
Men's Advanced: Andrew Brechner and Nolan Stark.
