UV PONY falls to SK/Stam Summer Team 16-4
NEW BERLIN — The Unadilla Valley Storm PONY league team hosted the SK/Stam Summer Team on Tuesday, falling 16-4.
The SK/Stam Summer team jumped on UV early, scoring five runs in the second, adding nine more in the third to create a big lead. The team also recorded one run in the fourth and fifth.
Despite the score, UV showed some spark, getting a run in the first inning and one in the fourth, before getting two more in the fifth. However, the defensive errors were costly, recording nine errors.
Offensively, Urijah Drake led UV with two hits, including a double, a run scored and an RBI in three at bats. Reed Osborne also had two hits and two runs scored. Cash Osborne added a hit and an RBI, while Paul Ruffles contributed with a hit and drew two walks. Kasen Cox scored a run, and the team totaled six hits on the day.
Teagin Eccelston started on the mound for UV and pitched two innings, allowing four hits and five runs while recording two strikeouts. Nick Crandall came in to relieve Eccleston in the third and went a third of an inning before being replaced by Reed Osborne, who went an inning. Paul Ruffles pitched 1.2 innings to finish the game.
Despite the loss, UV PONY had bright spots at the plate, look to tighten up defensively, and keep the momentum going into their next game Thursday at Walton/Downsville at 6 p.m.
