OXFORD — 6 On The Square will continue its free summer concert series at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, when The Millstone Rounders perform at Lafayette Park in Oxford.
The group will stop by after the Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance in Trumansburg to share its Americana blend that incorporates country, gospel, blues, trans-Atlantic fiddle breakdowns and proto rock ‘n’ roll. They perform on acoustic instruments around a single microphone, capturing a natural sound that is both sonically compelling and visually interesting. Joining them onstage will be Finger Lakes-based banjo player Benny Bleu.
James Gascoyne and Oona Grady have been collaborating with like-minded friends playing folk styles and acoustic genres since the early days of their duo, Drank the Gold. Growing out of their desire to expand their sound beyond Irish and old-time roots music, they began playing classic country, bluegrass and blues with Matt Griffin (Blue Ranger, Let’s Be Leonard), a fellow instructor at the Caffe Lena School of Music. Other members of The Millstone Rounders are banjo player Scott Hopkins (The Scott Hopkins Trio, Ashokan Banjo Weekend director) and bassist Dylan Perrillo (Dylan Perrillo Orchestra, The Hot Club of Saratoga).
Rounding out the free concert series on July 26 will be Reese Fulmer & The Carriage House Band.
All donations gratefully accepted! Bring your own chair or blanket. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will move inside 6OTS and live-streamed online; check our Facebook page on the day of the concert for more info. The summer series is sponsored by the R.C. Smith Foundation, Pete Perkins, Chenango County Tourism, NBT Bank, WSKG News, 6OTS members and donations from attendees. For more information, go to 6onthesquare.org.
