NORWICH – Town of Norwich residents will weigh in on a proposed noise ordinance next week when the Norwich Town Board holds a public hearing.

The hearing will be held during the Norwich Town Board monthly meeting at 6 p.m., Monday, Aug. 10, at Norwich Town Hall.

Town Supervisor Stanley Foulds said this is a chance for town taxpayers to voice support or concern over something that primarily affects residential areas before making their decision on a ballot.

“This is something that was brought about by residents who were concerned about loud music and that sort of thing,” said Foulds. “It’s mostly a residential issue.”

In spite of the August public hearing, the proposal has missed the Board of Elections’ Aug. 3 deadline to appear on November’s ballot. Foulds said it will have to wait until next year’s election to be voted on.

“As a board, and me as a supervisor, I don’t believe we should make that decision for everybody who lives in the town,” said Foulds. “I’m a firm believer in letting the people, those who live in the town, vote on this to make it a law.”
