NORWICH — The Chenango Arts Council (CAC) has scheduled a round trip bus ride to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The bus will depart at 7 a.m., Saturday, September 26, from the Arts Council parking lot at 27 West Main Street in Norwich and return to Norwich at 10 p.m.

Registration is $140 per person, which covers the museum admission and includes the bus trip. Register by September 10, at the CAC website, Chenangoarts.org.

“Arrival time will be 11 a.m. and guests can tour the museum at their own leisure until 5 p.m.,” said Chenango Arts Council Executive Director Alecia ONeill.

There will be no planned stops between the Arts Council and the Met, so food and drink is permitted and bathroom facilities are available on the bus.

She noted the return to Norwich arrival time in Norwich will be about 10 p.m.

“In addition to art from all cultures and historical periods, the Met has several temporary exhibits, as well as dining options,” ONeill said.

CAC Programing and Development Coordinator Mary Beth Miller said two of the temporary exhibits that will be up for a limited time are Musical Bodies and Costume Art.

“Musical Bodies looks at how musical instruments have informed not only music, but visual arts,” Miller explained. “By exploring depictions of instruments throughout history and culture, the exhibit shows how instruments can serve as almost an extension of our body to enable self expression.”

She noted the exhibit ends September 27.

“Costume Art connects items from the Costume Institute with the museum’s other collections in an exhibit of tectorial and visual art,” Miller said.

She said it illustrates the utility and mood of clothing through Western History and will run until January 2027.

According to Miller, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has exhibits year round, covering art history from around the world, including Ancient Egypt and Greece, China, Africa, The Americas, and more.

Famous artists such as Monet, Van Gogh, Sanger are on display as well as renown works like Madam X and Washington Crosses the Delaware.

ONeill cited CAC not only provides enriching events that allow both creators and audiences to participate in the arts, but they also support arts in education through student scholarships and our Grants for Teachers Program.

She also mentioned non-profit groups who are CAC members can meet in their conference room once a month for free.

O’Neill explained there is no spending required to support the arts, it can be as simple as attending a gallery opening or volunteering at a show, but donations help keep the arts alive and support fun free events like movie nights, exhibits, and career opportunities for talented community members to teach a class, display their work or play music.

“Donations also help in keeping ticket prices down for workshops and performances,” O’Neill continued. “Stunning acts as the Celtic Angels and Mutts Gone Nuts were brought to our stage with foundational and corporate sponsorship, but also the support of our neighbors.”

“Our Annual Appeal is an opportunity to give an amount of your choosing,” she said. “Funds directly benefit the community.”

ONeill said she looks forward to spending another exciting year with everyone.

The Chenango Arts Council is run by Executive Director Alecia ONeill and Administrative Assistant Mary Beth Miller and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
