BINGHAMTON - Assemblyman Joseph Angelino (R,C-Norwich) and Assemblyman Christopher S. Friend (R,C-Big Flats) attended a press conference in Binghamton on Monday with Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman to highlight rising utility costs and call for an all-of-the-above energy approach.

“For years now, policy pushed through in Albany has caused utility bills to rise at an unprecedented level. Delivery charges, renewable-energy programs, clean-energy mandates and other policy changes have driven utility bills through the roof. New York has decided to move away from affordable, reliable energy, such as natural gas and nuclear, in favor of expensive and unreliable sources such as wind and solar. We continue to mandate the electrification of vehicles and buildings. Our grid is unable to keep up with the demand. This is supply and demand 101,” said Angelino.

“When the supply side of a utility becomes more expensive and less reliable, it creates a disastrous perfect storm for ratepayers.”

Angelino says to combat this, New York must scrap the current green energy mandates and implement a true all-of-the-above approach to energy.

“The Green New Deal experiment has proven it can’t keep pace with demand, that much is clear. In order to make sure New Yorkers are able to afford their bills and   keep our energy reliable, we must adopt an all-of-the-above energy approach, which includes natural gas and nuclear in addition to renewables such as wind and solar. I am not against renewables, but to mandate them at a time when our grid simply cannot handle it is a recipe for failure. I will continue to fight for affordable and reliable energy in Albany and urge my colleagues to do the same,” concluded Angelino.
