NORWICH-- The Norwich Purple Tornado boys' soccer team had a strong offensive night at home against Waverly on Wednesday. Norwich earned its second win of the season with a 6-0 shutout victory.

The Purple Tornado had good possession and movement toward the net to start the game, which led to creating scoring opportunities. Wyeth Stafford had good touches on the ball to set up a corner kick and found James Sprague on a header to kick off the scoring.

Wyeth had opportunity again halfway through the first half but his shot went short. Teammate Jay Conant backed Stafford up and crashed the net to finish the score.

Soon after, Norwich had a good chance on a Waverly foul near the net, leaving it up to Andrew Mirabito, who netted the third goal in.

It was 3-0 Norwich at halftime, hoping to build on the momentum for the last 40 minutes of play.

Norwich stayed strong defensively with good work by Brady Perry and Brooks Boland with goalkeeper Pierce Sherman standing his ground in net.

With things going on their side, Norwich added three more goals in the second half, where Joseph Monaco, Jay Conant, and Stafford each scored.

Pierce Sherman finished with four saves in net before playing the field and letting Nick Hall take over with eight minutes left.

Norwich looks to keep things rolling when they hit the road on Friday at 7 p.m.
