AFTON - New York State Police are investigating allegations that a 21-year-old male posed as a teenager in order to communicate with and engage in sexual activity with underage victims.
During the investigation, it was determined that Christian Carolan, 21, of Afton, represented himself as being 15 or 16 years old while interacting with minors.
According to NY State Police, investigators determined Carolan had sexual relations with a victim under the age of 13 and, during at least one encounter, forced the victim to perform sexual acts.
Investigators believe there may be additional victims who had contact with Carolan. Anyone with information is asked to come forward.
On October 1, investigators made contact with Carolan at a residence in Afton. When investigators told him he was going to be placed under arrest, he resisted then later kicked a police vehicle causing damage to the vehicle.
Carolan was charged with three counts of first-degree rape, class B felonies; third-degree criminal mischief, a class E felony; endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor; and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.
Carolan was processed by the NY State Police at Sidney and later transported to the Chenango County Correctional Facility for an arraignment and remanded to the jail on $40,000 cash, $80,000 insurance company bail bond or $120,000 partially secured bond.
As part of the ongoing investigation, New York State Police are releasing a photograph of Carolan. Investigators believe displaying his photograph may help victims who interacted with him while he was allegedly representing himself as a teenager recognize him and determine whether they may have had contact with him.
Investigators are asking anyone who believes they may have had contact with Carolan, or who has information regarding his interactions with minors to contact the New York State Police at (607)561-7400 or email cpio@troopers.ny.gov, reference case NY2601118650.
