DVD Patrol
Welcome to Turkey Friday, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is coming out on Black Friday but a lot of us are still recovering from Turkey withdrawal and all of that kind of stuff (or stuffing in this case). Anyway, the Toddster has been pretty busy coming up with a few new DVDs and even a movie review. Here we go!
New on DVD
Super 8 - It’s funny how when there is something we like to do can change our lives forever. For a young group of kids, that’s about to be proof positive. They had their own movie club and decided to make a movie using the new Super 8 millimeter camera they just purchased. Now, their movie is about to become reality before reality TV was discovered. Filming a monster movie down by the train tracks may not have been such a good idea after a train crashes and something gets loose. Following this, strange things start to happen and people and animals start to disappear. Can our young heroes gets to the bottom of it and figure out who or what is behind what’s going on? From the minds of Steven Spielberg and JJ Abrams. Spielberg is about release his first animated movie called ‘The Adventures of Tintin” coming out in December. Abrams teams with Tom Cruise to produce “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” in theaters Dec. 21.
Conan the Barbarian - Once the world was a fierce and savage place. Anything could happen to everyone and everything. A force of evil has risen and is preying on whatever is in its’ path. This force makes its way to Hyboria but a lone warrior named Conan (Jason Momoa) decides that this will be stopped and he’s the only one who can do it. He has his work cut out for him as menacing warlords, monstrous sorceresses, and terrible creatures want to stop him. Is Conan up to the challenge? Momoa can be seen on the HBO show “Game of Thrones” available on DVD. Also, if you want to see where Momoa got his start, check out ‘Stargate Atlantis” available on DVD in all stores.
Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World - Having a life can be a real trick when you’re a spy. At least Marissa (Jessica Alba) used to be one before she decided to settle down with her husband Wilbur (Joel Mchale) and his kids Rebecca (Rowan Blanchard) and Cecil (Mason Cook). Marissa is pretty busy especially with her baby daughter on the way and trying to keep her stepkids in line. Just when she thought she was out for good, she gets pulled back in when her bosses tell her about a villain called the Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven) has a plan to take over the world. He targets Marissa but she’s not as a easy target to take down as he thinks. Marissa is going to need help as her delivery date is very close so the kids get drafted along with some help from former Spy Kids Carmen (Alexa Vega) and Juni Cortez (Daryl Sabara). Can they help the kids master their new gadgets and help their family stop the Timekeeper before time runs out? Pick up Spy Kids 1-3 available on DVD in stores now.
Now in Theaters
Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 - Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around, you could miss it. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) wasn’t sure what her life would bring when she moved to Washington and she met Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). Bella thought he was fascinating and mysterious all at the same time. Even when she found out he was a vampire. Their road hasn’t been an easy one and it’s been a fight for them to stay together and to stay alive too. One road block that has been in their way has been Jacob (Taylor Lautner) who is in love with Bella and he will do whatever it takes to prove he is the one for her and not Edward. Bella makes her choice and decides she wants to marry Edward. They go through with it and they go on their honeymoon. It’s shortlived after they find out that Bella has become pregnant. This has never happened before. Now Edward and his family have to find a way to save Bella and the baby. Unfortunately, Jacob’s clan decides they have to stop whatever Bella’s baby may or may not be and that means Bella has to die. Jacob and Edward will do whatever they have to do to stop them. Can they save her before it’s too late?
The Toddster’s Take - I really thought this was going to be better than I hoped. It took quite a while for the story to get moving and the story really dragged in some places. The triangle between Jacob, Edward, and Bella really never gets resolved. It’s never really explained why the wolves want to hurt her in the first place. I consider the movie was OK and I know a lot of fans have been disappointed by the pacing of the movie. Now we’ll have to wait until July to see the conclusion. I’m hoping that this will be a better payoff than what we’ve seen so far.
The Toddster has been pretty busy and I encourage you to go see “Breaking Dawn” for yourselves and you be the judge. I always try to point you in the right direction. December is right around the corner along with a teamup coming soon. Have a great week and the Toddster will return.
