Oxford boys defeat Edmeston in overtime

OXFORD – After a big league win over UV, the Oxford Blackhawks returned home for a tough non-league contest with Edmeston. Both teams put on a competitive showcase and brought on an exciting game with Oxford picking up the 68-64 victory in overtime.
Both teams traded baskets and put pressure on the other defensively, but it was the Blackhawks that turned Edmeston turnovers into points, coming up big with three’s. Donovan Rickard hit a three at the halftime buzzer to put Oxford down 32-28 at the break. Oxford was down most of the first half before fighting back after halftime and then tying it up to force overtime. Adding more three’s and a few free-throws helped Oxford seal their fourth win of the season.
Donovan Rickard led Oxford with 26 points, knocking in five of the team’s total of 13 three-pointers. Ben Sheridan followed with 19 points, including six three’s. Rickard and Ben came in clutch in overtime with dishing out a three each to help Oxford come away with the victory. Gordon Smith added seven points with a three as Jared Sheridan had six points in the second half, including overtime as well.
Nic Dodzweit played an great game off the bench, where he came away with defensive rebounds, especially in overtime when the team needed it most, was used inside the paint in the second half, and had the final field goal for Oxford and finished with five points. Sam Hendricks put up a three in the third quarter as Kyle Benjamin added a bucket in the fourth quarter.
Oxford (4-3) heads to Sidney on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m.
