Oxford boys come away with win over Sidney
SIDNEY – After a thrilling overtime win over Edmeston, the Oxford Blackhawks boys basketball team resumed MAC league play as they hit the road to play Sidney on Wednesday. Both teams battled, but it was Oxford that came out on top 58-45. With this win, Oxford is climbing up the MAC standings and currently sit in fifth with a three-way tie for second place.
The Sabers took a brief 17-10 lead after the first quarter, but the Blackhawks had the 28-24 edge at the half and never looked back. Coach Davis was impressed with his team’s ability to make adjustments and being able to fight off a couple momentum runs by Sidney to stay focused and come away with the win.
Donovan Rickard led the Blackhawks with 20 points as Gordon Smith added 12 points with eight of those points in the first half. Jared Sheridan knocked in nine points with a three in the third quarter.
Ben Sheridan and Sam Hendricks both had six points apiece as Nic Dodzweit had a bucket and two free-throws for four points. Rich Hunter added one free-throw in the win.
Sidney’s Connor van der Sommen had a game-high 27 points, where he made eight-of-eight free-throws and hit five threes.
Oxford improves to 2-1 in the MAC and 5-3 overall. Oxford hosts Greene on Friday at 7:15 p.m.
