Oxford boys top Afton

AFTON – The Oxford Blackhawks boys basketball team are currently riding on a five-game win streak, including Tuesday’s win against league opponent Afton. Oxford defeated the Crimson Knights 75-38.
Oxford continued their strengths of a high scoring affair and with contributions from mostly everyone on the team, showing a strong team dynamic.
The Blackhawks’ best efforts came in the third quarter, posting 28 team points, building intensity before settling in. Afton tried to keep up and played consistent in both the second and fourth quarters, but Oxford was too strong.
Donovan Rickard went off with 19 points, including 13 in the first quarter and had the remaining six points in the third. Gordon Smith added 16 points, staying consistent throughout the contest. Nic Dodzweit and Sam Hendricks both chipped in 10 points as Jared Sheridan finished with six points.
Ben Sheridan and Aiden Mellem both hit threes as Richard Hunter and Landen Olinski added two points in the fourth quarter.
Afton’s Dion Bushaw led the team with 18 points, going six-for-six at the free-throw line. He scored eight of the team’s 10 points in the second quarter. Pierce Bushaw followed with seven points as Ryan Wright had five points in the fourth quarter. Bo Bushaw finished with four points off the bench in the fourth quarter as Kaden Kehoe had a bucket within the final eight minutes. Toni Obeada also added two points in the second quarter.
Oxford sits behind Delhi in second place of the MAC with a 4-1 league record and are 7-3 overall. The Blackhawks continue their road trip at B-G on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
Afton (1-11) hosts Harpursville on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
