NORWICH - On Wednesday, September 2, the Norwich Art Initiative is hosting a public meeting at Commerce Chenango at 6 p.m. to provide an update on the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) public art project, and seek community feedback to inspire artists’ design proposals.

The public art project kicked off on Wednesday, June 17th with a Request for Qualifications for artist/artist team portfolios in pursuit of five sculptures and one mural to be installed in Downtown Norwich next year.

The RFQ received 111 submissions from interested artists around the world, ranging from Hamilton, NY to France and China. The Norwich Art Initiative— which includes representatives from Commerce Chenango, the Business Improvement District, Friends of the Park, Golden Artist Colors, Inc., Sculpture Space, and the local community, then narrowed the submission pool to 65 for official scoring.

A total of 19 artists (15 sculptors and 4 muralists) have been selected to produce design proposals for the artwork. These artists will have eight weeks to produce design proposals, at which point public feedback will be sought and the submissions will be reviewed by the Art Initiative.

The online survey is now live, and will remain open until Wednesday, September 8.
