What can be found at the Sidney Memorial Public Library?
SIDNEY - The Sidney Memorial Public Library is so much more than a brick and mortar building with shelves of books, DVDs, and other materials.
Not only can we order in items from other libraries for you but we have an extensive range of electronic and downloadable resources. Many of these resources are available with your library card in conjunction with the Four County Library System while others are specific to the Sidney Memorial Public Library. Did you know that the Sidney library has musical kits? There are 9 total and are called “Band-In-A-Box Clap, Clang, Tap” and is a 10-piece set that contains percussion instruments for ages 3+. Using it with children helps introduce musical instruments and encourages creative expression. You can find these in the On-Line card catalog under the title: Band-in-a-box.
Did you know that we offer MedlinePlus it is an online health information resource for patients and their families and friends? It is a service of the National Library of Medicine (NLM), the world’s largest medical library, which is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Creativebug is coming soon to the Sidney library. Creativebug for libraries is a digital platform offering thousands of free, online art and craft video classes (sewing, knitting, painting etc.) for all ages, accessible with your library card.
Did you know that as a library card holder you have access to an extensive Research Center: 4CLS provides access to a collection of high-quality, accurate, electronic resources? Some of these databases are made possible through NOVELny, the New York Online Virtual Library, a public information network for New Yorkers. Others are provided by the Four County Library System. Whether you are a scholar, a family researcher, or a parent helping your child with a research project, the Research Center has a database for you. All free and available at home or your local library, our fleet of resources offers everything from medical information, to genealogical resources, as well as local newspaper archives, test-prep resources, language help, and much more. All conveniently available online at the Research Center. Through the Four County System we are also able to offer thousands of online magazines and downloadable audio and e-books.
Did you know that if you come to the library and use one of our public computers you can access Ancestry.com? Ancestry along with several other genealogy sites is available for genealogy research.
