BAINBRIDGE — If you want to hear a unique and talented band from the hills of Appalachia, creating that pure Kentucky sound, don’t miss the Kevin Prater Band when they perform at the Bainbridge Town Hall Theatre, 15 North Main Street, on Saturday, October 24th at 7 p.m.
The Kevin Prater Band is a powerhouse bluegrass band originating from Belcher, Kentucky, celebrated for their authentic, hard-driving Coal-Fired, Pure Kentucky Bluegrass. Formed around 2007, the band has a fierce reputation for high-energy performances, masterful picking, and authentic Appalachian storytelling. They seamlessly blend traditional bluegrass with vintage country, powerful four-part a cappella gospel, and grassed-up classic rock.
At the heart of the group is multi-instrumentalist and powerhouse vocalist Kevin Prater, who boasts over 45 years in the music industry. Prater spent twelve of those years touring the world and recording with the Grammy-nominated James King Band. He also shared stages with bluegrass legends the likes of Melvin Goins. Known for his piercing, "high lonesome" tenor singing, Prater has grown proficient on the mandolin, banjo, guitar, and bass, anchoring the band's authentic traditionalist approach.
Other band members include Codie Allen, Eb Saunders and Aidan Kerber. Codie Allen is a 24-year-old banjo picker from Campbellsville, KY, and brings to the band his driving banjo picking and baritone vocals. Eb Saunders is a 17-year-old multi-instrumentalist from Chattanooga, TN, and brings to the band his dynamic Florida-style fiddle playing, and powerful bass/lead vocals. Hailing from the coal-mining hills of Pennsylvania, and currently residing in Johnson City, TN, Aidan Kerber is a powerhouse vocalist with a strong stylistic core.
What sets the Kevin Prater Band apart is their raw, improvisational, heartfelt performances. Possessing a massive catalog of songs, the band never uses a set list during live shows, keeping the energy fresh and captivating. Their sound honors first-generation bluegrass legends like the Stanley Brothers and Bill Monroe while injecting a youthful, driving momentum.
