SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville Drama Club received notification that they are recipients of four Theatre Association of New York State (TANYS) Roving Adjudicator Merit Awards following adjudication of their production of “Our Town,” performed on May 1 & 2 at the S-E High School Auditorium.
Two members of the cast, Tyler Rundell and Brittany Clark, will each receive a Meritorious Achievement in Acting Award for their respective roles of George Gibbs and Emily Webb. Also, Director Colleen Law-Tefft will be receiving an Excellence in Direction Award and the production staff will be honored with an Excellence in Production Design and Execution.
“The Sherburne-Earlville Drama Club’s production of Our Town was an evening of theatre punctuated by an exceptionally well-conceived and designed production.  This Director and Cast took an American Classic and breathed new life into it, creating for its audience an engaging, humorous and affecting experience.” said TANYS Adjudicator Paul Nelson from Olean.
Formal presentations of the TANYS awards will be held on Saturday, November 21, during the TANYS Festival Awards Banquet in Batavia as part of the 2009 TANYS Festival which runs Friday through Sunday, Nov. 20-22. For further details on the festival or the TANYS organization, go to www.tanys.org.
The Sherburne Earlville Drama Club has finished another busy year with a total of 46 students participating. Drama Club is open to anyone in grades 6 through 12. In the fall, they produced an evening of one-act plays, including several student-directed ones, titled “Life, Love and Everything in Between.” In January 2009, eleven drama club students attended the NYSTEA (New York State Theatre Education Association) Student Conference in Kerhonkson, at the Hudson Valley Resort and Spa, where they were able to take workshops from professionals in the theatre world on a large variety of topics from Improvisation to Swing Dance to Audition Techniques, as well as workshops on the technical side of theatre.
In March, the Drama Club traveled to the Michael Harms Theatre Festival in Syracuse, where they performed two one-act plays (Post-Its (Notes on a Marriage) and 2B (or not 2B)) from their fall production.
Individual Commendation Awards were given to Tyler Rundell and Brittany Clark for their performances in Post-Its; to Kaitlyn Briggs for her Stage Manager abilities and Max Pacilio as the Lighting/Sound Designer. Eric Robertson received the NYSTEA scholarship, and Stephanie Joyce received the prestigious $1,500 Michael Harms Scholarship, for their performances in “2B (or Not 2B)”. The year ended on a high note, with their successful production of Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town.”
