Chenango County Sheriff's Office issues scam alert over fake police calls

NORWICH - The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office has alerted residents to a phone scam circulating in the area. Scammers are reportedly calling individuals, claiming to represent the Sheriff’s Office, and requesting money for missed court dates.
Sheriff Ernest Cutting Jr. confirmed that members of the sheriff’s office do not contact individuals to ask for money regarding criminal matters. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and avoid sharing personal or financial information with unknown callers.
