ONEONTA — The Greene boys soccer team is back on top as MAC Champions!
Playing at the Wright National Soccer Campus, Greene beat Unatego/Franklin 3-2 on a last-minute goal to win the MAC championship. It is Greene’s first league title since 2019, following a 2021 championship loss to B-G.
Greene got on the board first in the opening half. Judd Dutcher scored on a penalty kick about halfway through the half to make it 1-0 at halftime.
Both defenses played well early. Jacob Acevado played tight defense on Unatego/Franklin's top players, and Greene also blocked a direct kick to keep the lead.
The offense picked up in the second half. Just 10 minutes in, Jack Rice passed to Gavin Ely, who scored to put Greene up 2-0.
Unatego/Franklin answered with a goal midway through the half. On the very next possession, Dutcher hit a shot off the crossbar, and Gavin Strantz had a strong breakaway.
Unatego/Franklin tied the game 2-2 with 10 minutes left to play.
Greene kept fighting and got back-to-back corner kicks late in the game. With 33.5 seconds left on the clock, Rice passed to Dutcher, who scored the game-winning goal.
The Trojans will take that momentum into sectionals, where they host Delhi on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
