Greene girls roll on with win over Unatego
GREENE – It was a battle between the Greene Trojans and the Unatego Spartans at Greene High School on Wednesday night in a rematch from the 2024 MAC Championship game, only this time in regular league play. Both teams came into this matchup at 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the MAC. Greene secured a 45-36 victory to take full control of the league.
Greene was only at a deficit in the first quarter, where they were down 12-8. They shifted things around to take a 19-17 advantage at the break and they held this small-margin lead to end the third quarter (29-24). Greene held Unatego to five points in the second quarter and seven after halftime.
Greene showed strength at the free throw line throughout the final eight minutes of play as 14 of their total 16 points came at the line. Cali Knapp led the Trojans with making six free throws within the quarter and finished 7-for-8 overall.
Josie Dutcher and Abby Yahner both led the Trojans with 11 points apiece. Yahner made all four of her free throws in the fourth quarter as Dutcher sank in two free throws during that time frame. Knapp finished with nine points as Claire Flanagan added five points. Mia Yahner and Mya Leggett-Carlin both chipped in four points as Lexi Cloyd made one free throw. Greene went 18-for-26, 69 percent, at the line throughout the contest.
